Planting Seeds: Rediscovering Self within Posttraumatic Growth
All those in first responders roles have heard the research about the rates of PTSD in this population. Everyone knows that carrying high levels of toxic stress affects not only our mental health but also our physical bodies, our relationships around us, and our views of the future for ourselves. What you may not know however, is that some individuals who have experienced trauma or chronic stress actually grow and develop into even healthier versions of themselves. They experience what is referred to as Posttraumatic Growth.
What you also may not know is that therapy does not have to be a one size fits all approach. You may not need to sit with a therapist for months or years on end to start your journey towards posttraumatic growth. Planting Seeds is a group therapy program that is meant to help you introduce yourself to the world of therapy and to set the foundation for healthy growth and development while you soak up the beautiful scenery of the Canadian Rockies.
In this group, we will explore the effects of trauma and stress as well as learn to recognize what losses we may be carrying due to the work that we do. We will strategize coping techniques together and we will discover what we can do to set a foundation for resiliency and growth as our careers continue. This is not a trauma processing group but we will be helping you explore what elements contribute to the heaviness you may be carrying. You will leave with a better understanding of how to access further supports if needed, how to cope with the stresses that will continue to follow your roles, and how to set yourself up for a life you want to be truly present and engaged with.
