At Dover Psychology, we offer a wide range of therapy services, including individual therapy, child and adolescent therapy, group therapy, and more. Our experienced therapists tailor their approach to meet the unique needs of each client.
Therapy can be beneficial for individuals experiencing a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, grief, and more. If you're struggling with difficult emotions or situations that are impacting your daily life, therapy may be helpful. Our therapists provide a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your concerns and work towards positive change.
Therapy sessions typically last 50 minutes (with the last 10 minutes of an hour being dedicated to your therapist creating notes regarding the session), although the duration may vary depending on the type of therapy and your therapist's recommendations. Longer sessions may be available for specialized treatments or intensive interventions.
The frequency of therapy sessions depends on your individual needs and goals, as well as your therapist's recommendations. Some clients benefit from weekly sessions, while others may schedule sessions bi-weekly or monthly. Your therapist will work with you to determine a schedule that best supports your progress and well-being.
Yes, we offer online therapy sessions for clients who prefer the convenience and flexibility of remote therapy. Our secure video conferencing platform allows you to access therapy from the comfort of your own home or office, making it easier to fit sessions into your busy schedule.
To schedule an appointment for therapy, you can contact our administration team by phone or email. Our friendly staff will assist you in finding a therapist who meets your needs and schedule your initial appointment at a time that works for you.
During your first therapy session, your therapist will take the time to get to know you and understand your reasons for seeking therapy. You'll have the opportunity to discuss your concerns, goals, and expectations for therapy, and your therapist will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan.
Yes, therapy is confidential, and your privacy is of the utmost importance to us. Our therapists adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines, and information shared in therapy sessions is kept confidential unless there is a risk of harm to yourself or others. We will discuss confidentiality and its limitations with you during your initial session.
Therapy costs vary depending on the type of therapy, the duration of the session, and your therapist's qualifications and experience. Our therapy fees are based on the recommended charges as proposed through the Psychological Association of Alberta, and we offer sliding scale fees for clients facing financial hardship. Please refer to our Pricing and Fees page for more information.
Yes, we accept insurance for therapy services, and we offer direct billing for select insurance providers (such as Alberta Blue Cross, Medavie Blue Cross, Manulife, Canada Life, etc. In addition, Sam is a preferred provider for the Edmonton Police and can direct bill for EPS members). Please contact our administration team to inquire about insurance coverage and reimbursement options.
Therapy can help individuals struggling with anxiety and depression by providing coping strategies, emotional support, and tools for managing symptoms. Our therapists use evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and relaxation techniques to help clients improve their mental health and well-being.
If you're experiencing a crisis or emergency, please seek immediate assistance by calling emergency services or going to the nearest emergency room. You can also contact crisis hotlines or helplines for support. We strongly recommend the Edmonton Distress line at 780-482-4357 (HELP). Our therapists are not available 24/7 for emergency services, but we can provide resources and referrals to help you access the support you need.
The duration of therapy varies depending on your individual needs, goals, and progress. Some clients may benefit from short-term therapy lasting a few months, while others may engage in longer-term therapy for ongoing support. Your therapist will work with you to determine the most appropriate length of treatment for your situation.

If you're not satisfied with your therapy experience or feel that you're not making progress, it's important to communicate openly with your therapist. Discuss your concerns and goals for therapy, and consider exploring alternative approaches or seeking a second opinion from another therapist. All of our therapists are registered through the College of Alberta Psychologists and are bound by their ethical standards and regulations. Therefore, your therapist's priority is always your well-being, and they will work with you to address any issues or challenges you may be facing, even if that means they need to find someone better suited to meet your needs.
Yes, therapy can be beneficial for individuals and couples experiencing relationship issues. Couples therapy provides a safe and supportive space for partners to address conflicts, improve communication, and strengthen their bond. Our therapists use evidence-based techniques to help couples navigate challenges and build healthier, more fulfilling relationships.
Our therapists at Dover Psychology are Registered Psychologists or Registered Provisional Psychologists with advanced degrees in psychology, counseling, or related fields. They have undergone rigorous training and supervision to obtain their credentials and are committed to providing high-quality care to our clients. As stated above, all therapists are also registered through the College of Alberta Psychologists and are therefore mandated to provide ethical and accountable services. You are welcome to review the standard and guidelines psychologists must follow at https://www.cap.ab.ca/
While both psychologists and therapists provide mental health services, there are some differences in their training and qualifications. Psychologists typically hold advanced degrees (Master’s or Doctoral) in psychology and may specialize in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders. Psychologists are also required to undergo a specific amount of supervision in their field before they can practice on their own and Registered Psychologists have also passed exams pertaining to both theoretical knowledge and the ethics of this field. At this time, the term therapist is actually unregulated and does not require that one is registered through any governing body or have any specific education/qualifications.
